Committed to Conservation
Protecting Land, Water, and Wildlife at Clermont Farm
Clermont Farm is committed to environmental stewardship through ongoing conservation practices that promote soil health, improve water quality, and support local ecosystems. These efforts not only preserve the natural beauty of the landscape but also strengthen its role as a model for sustainable land management in Virginia.
Conservation in Action
Clermont Farm participates in the Conservation Reserve Enhancement Program (CREP), a federal-state partnership that helps restore vital habitats and improve water and air quality.
In 2022, Clermont was named a Clean Water Conservation Service Partner, recognizing its leadership in protecting water resources through the implementation of best management practices.
Native tree planting is a core component of Clermont’s conservation efforts, enhancing soil stability and providing critical habitat for local wildlife. The farm also plants native trees in pastures to provide more shade, improving forages and increasing animal growth, while thinning overgrown areas for the same reasons, an agro-forestry best practice called “silvo-psture”.
The farm is also home to beehives that support healthy pollinator populations, contributing to the region’s ecological balance.
Clermont actively removes invasive and non-native plant species to promote the growth of native vegetation and restore biodiversity across the property.
In 2024, Clermont received the Grand Winner Clean Water Farm Award for the Shenandoah River Basin—one of Virginia’s highest honors for agricultural conservation.
